Battle through Brain Surgery-Rachels Radical Road

As most of you know, Rachel was in a car accident in 2012 and has been chronically ill ever since, requiring full-time care. For years she lived in a dark room and was unable to walk. After 10 years doctors discovered that she has a brainstem impingement, requiring brain surgery. There are only three doctors in the United States that do this particular type of surgery and none of them are local. We have been referred to a brain specialist in New York.

This March, she is scheduled for a week of testing by 4 different specialists in New York. One of those tests is invasive and she will be admitted into Mt Sinai hospital (NY) and put under anesthesia. Depending on how she reacts, she may have to stay at the hospital afterward for a few days. This first trip will be about 2 weeks. After these tests, the doctors will have a better idea of how many surgeries Rachel will need (it could be up to 3). The first surgery is expected to be this summer.

Insurance copays, some doctors that don't take her insurance and traveling expenses for several trips from Colorado to New York will be expensive. These trips will be very difficult, for new environments alone make her symptoms worse and she has been mostly bedridden the last month. Yet she is determined to fight this battle and do what she has to do to get her health back.
