Battling for Beckett: Malignant Neuroblastoma
Donation protected
Beckett Thomas was diagnosed with malignant neuroblastoma just a week and a half before his 12th birthday. As close friends of the Thomas family, we're reaching out with heavy yet hopeful hearts – asking you to join in his healing journey through prayer and financial support.
On October 28, Beckett fell on his stomach while roller skating. Following his accident, he experienced intense pain and vomiting – something just didn’t seem right. Beckett’s parents, Pat and Cassie, rushed him to Children’s Mercy where he was admitted for further testing and to stabilize his condition. We praise God that this fall brought a much larger underlying medical issue to light!
Over the next several weeks, a biopsy, CT and MRI determined that Beckett has a large mass in his abdomen measuring 10x5x6 inches – the size of a small squash. Further testing determined the mass to be a malignant neuroblastoma.
Beckett has undergone multiple procedures to determine the spread of the cancer. The bone marrow biopsy is still pending ... but the good news is that a PET scan did not show any other cancer. The final treatment plan will be formulated after the bone marrow biopsy returns. At that time, if it is negative for cancer, the surgery team and radiology will look over everything once more to determine if surgery to completely remove the cancer can happen. This would be a very large and difficult surgical procedure but the ultimate goal would be to come out of it cancer-free. This is the hope and prayer for the Thomas family.
Beckett has a long road ahead of him, but we’re encouraged to know that he has a loving and supportive community that will surround him every step of the way.
We ask for your help to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses, travel and loss of income that will accompany Pat and Cassie’s reduced work schedules as Beckett’s healing becomes the Thomas family’s number one priority. Your generosity will help alleviate the stress of additional financial burdens and bring comfort and support to the family during this difficult time.
Here’s how you can help:
1) By making a donation to help financially support Beckett’s family as he undergoes treatment and recovery.
2) By praying for Beckett and the entire Thomas family. We believe that God is already working a miracle in Beckett’s life and will restore him to full health. We pray that this is just the beginning of Beckett’s testimony of God’s healing and goodness.
3) By sharing Beckett’s story with your friends who may be inspired by his journey or desire to help in any way.
