Battling Guillain Barre Syndrome
Donation protected
On August 18, 2018 my brother-in-law Manuel Ignacio Peña aka Nacho was transported to Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, WA. After numerous testing and having inconclusive results, the doctors decided to test his Cerebrospinal Fluid. He then was diagnosed with a rare disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). GBS causes the persons own immune system to damage their nerve cells and cause muscle weakness or numbness and sometimes paralysis.
While being in ICU he has undergone Immunoglobulin Therapy, which has been somewhat effective to his recovery, but not having the advancement his doctors would like. They have now started Plasmapheresis (basically the removal and filtering of his blood and returning it back to his body.) This process will be done 5-6 more times throughout the course of the next couple of weeks. With this being said, we are asking friends, family and anyone in general to help out his family in this time of need to help lessen their financial stress and help them focus on his recovery. Even the smallest donation can make the biggest difference. Thank You, The Peña Family
