Baxter Park Skate Track Fundraiser
Donation protected
The Baxter Park Skate Track Group are part of an initiative to build an outdoor flat surface skate track in Dundee.
This will be free to use and for all ages. The use of the skate track by the local community could have huge health benefits by encouraging more people to get active and enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. We would want a range of uses for the skate track – children learning to ride their bike or scooter, inline skating, quad skating, roller derby games, wheelchair sports, etc.
We will soon complete the consultation stage before moving on to financing the project. We have the support of Dundee Roller Derby, Stobswell Forum and Friends of Baxter Park. The group is made up of Dundee Roller Derby former and current players and officials who want to see this dream become a reality.
So far we have acquired pre-planning advice, have Dundee City Council Neighbourhood Services Committee approval and have consulted in the local community and with a number of people and organisations. We have also engaged with the local primaries and secondary school to gauge the interest of the children and young people who live nearby and use Baxter Park. The response has been overwhelmingly supportive.
The track would be built where the old bowling greens were situated. This is at the Arbroath Road end, next to the MUGA pitch and tennis courts which are currently being refurbished. Exercise equipment is also going to be installed. We hope a skate track would add to this sports area and encourage some outdoor Roller Derby as well as people using it for other leisure activities.
Here’s a link to a brief digital story which gives the background to the initial idea to have a Skate Track:
