Bay Area Refugees, COVID response
Tax deductible
We are a group of concerned Bay Area volunteers, raising money to support our local refugee population who have been hit hard by COVID-19, both medically and economically. It’s no surprise that a significant portion of our brothers and sisters are struggling to get by since the coronavirus cost them their jobs and livelihood. Worst yet, mainstream media is completely failing to cover their story and the U.S. coronavirus response fails to support them. This is where we step in….
California is home to over half of the nation’s refugee population, with a large percentage living right here, in the Bay Area. This Ramadan, not only are our community members struggling to put food on the table for the breaking of fast, but they are also struggling to pay rent, medical, and general living costs. Coronavirus has been rampant in refugee communities, leaving families with large medical bills, or leaving them with no work. Unfortunately, new federal laws also prohibit these families from using public assistance programs if they are on a path to citizenship, thereby further isolating them.
Refugees have already fled a past of hunger, genocide, war, violence, and trauma. Our brothers and sisters need us now more than ever.
We are looking to you, in the last two weeks of Ramadan, for help in caring for and supporting our neighbors right here in the Bay Area. Chances are, a family is in desperate need of your help, just a few streets down.
What does my donation cover?
*The funds you help us raise will go directly to: a mother’s groceries to feed her children, rent checks to ensure our neighbors remain housed, bill checks to ensure access to water and electricity, and health supplies.
How will these funds be delivered to families?
*Funds will be transferred to Amaan Foundation: A small women-led organization that supports local refugees from the MENA region. Amaan focuses on providing, material, financial, social, and psychological support.
Thank you.
