Empower Ella

On January 11th, 2022, Ella was injured in a soccer game which resulted in her developing a rare condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). It’s so rare it took almost three months before Ella was diagnosed. The family was elated to find a diagnosis so they can fix Ella’s syndrome in her left leg, but quickly learned she will have this for life. CRPS can go into remission, but the main focus now is to eliminate the intense pain she’s had all year and gain leg mobility.

Ella’s nervous system became stuck sending false pain signals to her brain and still does to this day. These signals tell her body she is still injured creating extreme pain in her leg. This has caused immobility, swelling, skin discoloration, blood clots, high blood pressure and much more. She is unable to walk her high school campus and is now enrolled in virtual school.

If you know Ella, soccer was her life. She loved soccer more than anything. Ella was known to go running in her spare time and was always kicking a ball. She never sat idle. Ella has not been able to do any of those things, let alone walk like she used to.

Since this is a rare condition and treatment is limited, it has been a long year identifying the issue and finding a solution without heavy medication. Most treatments are not covered by insurance. Ella was recently accepted to an outpatient program at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital to help her control her pain and gain mobility. She will attend this program for a minimum of eight weeks totaling about four hours a day. She has a team of doctors and therapists who are ready to empower Ella.

It has been quite the year with medical payments. And if Ella’s costs haven’t been enough, Ella’s mom went through breast cancer this year. Please help them send Ella to treatment without the financial worries.
