Who is Seabin™, and what is the 100 Cities Campaign?

In 2016, Seabin™ started out as a trash skimmer placed in the water to capture floating marine debris like microplastics and plastic fibers.

Seabin’s mission is now to clean up entire cities, 100 cities by 2050 to be more exact, using Sydney as its first case study read the report here and securing proof of concept. The formula is simple; obtain social license from the community, back it up with data and then support "positive impact" policymaking and new legislation at the local, state, federal, and international levels.

The model

• To service an entire city, the Seabin model is split into for-profit (R&D, IP, servicing) and not for profit (science, education & community)
• Phase 1 is funded by community & corporate sponsorships, then the model evolves to include government funding and service contracts.

What Are We Fundraising For?

Seabin™ has embarked on a mission to cleanup 100 cities by 2050, with LA as our second city. We started in Sydney, Australia, in 2020, and it was a huge success, so we simply thought, let's do this in LA! Read the impact report here

Marina Del Rey is the first of 3 locations, and the city pilot goes for 3 years - Press release here

Why Are We Using GoFundMe, and Why Isn't The Government Paying?

Because the government is simply too slow... But they will support the LA pilot after we show them that it works. Same as what we have done in Sydney, our first city in the 100 cities by 2050 campaign, where we needed to show proof of concept that it works.

How Will The Funds Be Used?

Cleaning up LA takes all levels of support, and the goal is to raise AUD $500,000 using both community and corporate donations. We are working hard in the background, encouraging local LA businesses and corporates to contribute with a dollar matching or better financial contribution.

LA is very influential and such a fantastic city, but microplastics, plastic fibers and plastic pollution are in LA’s waterways, and they are heading out to our oceans to potentially harm turtles, whales, dolphins and also us with plastics in our food and even in our bodies…

The funds raised will be used to launch Seabin LA, creating local full-time jobs. The first jobs are the Enviro Technicians, who will be responsible for the daily empties, data collections, and community events designed to engage with local communities focusing on environmental solutions, data education and prevention programs.

The Seabin LA pilot also involves community volunteers and citizen scientists, so if you want to get involved, hit this link here, and we will be in touch.

Thanks everyone for being amazing and supporting Seabin LA!

So thanks again if you can donate, and thanks so much even if you cannot. Please tell your friends and share this campaign on your social media. For Cleaner Oceans
