Flight Training Expenses

Hi, my name is Amiya Davis and I’m fundraising for my private pilot license flight training. I’m a 16 year old from Chicago, Illinois currently enrolled in Lindblom Math & Science Academy as a excelling junior. I first got into aviation during the summer of 2022 when I joined the Bessie Coleman Aviation All Stars program ran by Gigi Coleman; the great niece of Bessie Coleman who was the first black women to obtain a pilots license. I can’t believe I say this now but I had no idea about world of aviation let alone the black history within the industry. Ms.Coleman taught me all about the history of Bessie and all the opportunities that were in the aviation world. From that point forward there wasn’t anything more appealing to me than learning about planes. I got to network with pilots to air traffic controllers to aeronautical engineers. As I got more involved in the aviation world I received a full ride scholarship where I was able to go to Emrby-Riddle Aeronautical University over the past summer for a aerospace exploration program. This allowed me to go on a discovery flight where I immediately got the aviation bug. My instructor was so trusting in me and actually let me assist her in flying the plane even though I had no idea what I was doing — I had been interested in commercial flight for a while but didn’t think it was something I would be able to commit to because I was black and a girl. I thought that it was a dream that was unachievable for someone like me especially when the industry was predominantly male and white. However, after my discovery flight I fell in love and flying a plane was the only thing I could think about. I to this day reminisce about that moment all the time and yearn to be in a position where I could fly again hence my desire to get my license. I want to be a example for girls like me aspiring to be in aviation who dont think they can make it there and tell them they can simply because I’m on the same journey. I want to be able to show that financial burdens are not a barrier but merely a temporary obstacle. I want to be able to stand proud and tell my story of how a black female got to the airlines so that those out there that think it’s nonexistent and impossible can be proved other wise. I was one of those people until this year where I met black pilots for the first time and it was one of the most special moments of my life. I’ve never aspired to something more. There are less than one percent of black female pilots in the entire world and I want to change that number. I want to help incorporate diversity into the field and let others know how I can contribute to the industry. Please help me to accomplish my dreams of being an airline pilot. Any amount is helping me move towards a new beginning where I can be able to create white streaks in the sky!
