BBQGuys Family, Taylor Inman

Team:
Our BBQGuys family this past year has taken a hit. 2020 has not been great for a lot of our team personally. I love my job but sometimes not being able to help someone is my biggest weakness. As of lately Taylor Inman, who is a crucial part to our draft team in online sales was impacted by the big ugly word CANCER. Taylor has been with our company almost 3 years. I wanted to share with those that have been wondering what is going on with him. Others, please feel free to read and say a prayer or send good vibes throughout your days and nights (whatever your belief is). We have also put together a GoFundMe to help Taylor and his family during this time.
Written by Taylor’s mom, Tonya Inman:
Taylor Inman was born early one December morning in 1995. He came into this world with a loud voice and his arms raised high with a determination that got him noticed. That same spirit has followed him over the years. So, in February, when the whole world began to fall apart under the weight of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Taylor began to fade. He was tested for Covid-19 because he had all the symptoms. Taylor was tired, aching, fever, and the upper respiratory issues. But, he tested negative and nothing was done. He got a little better. However, continued to deteriorate by dropping weight and feeling tired. Taylor returned to doctor in March with same symptoms. But the whole world was blinded by Covid-19 and so he was tested for that and the flu. Negative results again and doctors did nothing. On the week of June 10th, Taylor’s symptoms intensified to the point that he could not talk. By the 14th he could not get out of bed because he was so weak.
I went and got him on June 15th and made him go to a walk in clinic. They would not let him out of the car. Yet again, he was tested for COVID-19 and strep. Taylor’s vital signs were at a dangerous level across the board. Once his tests came back negative, we were sent to the ER.
The ER did blood work, chest X-ray, EKG, CT scan, urinalysis. After a long wait, a very unsympathetic doctor came in and told us that Taylor had a very bad case of double pneumonia and some form of Leukemia and they would be transferring him to another hospital. And he walked out. Yeah, just like that! Taylor was then taken to the Lake in Baton Rouge where the whole testing process started all over again and they would not let his family be with him until he got yet another negative COVID-19 test result! After multiple doctors reviewed his tests, it was determined that he had fluid surrounding his heart and he was admitted to the ICU at midnight. We were sent home. At 4:00 in the morning, Taylor called me to say that they were about to put a tube in his chest to drain fluid because it was killing him. His dad and I got to the hospital and the surgery was done a couple hours later. 500cc’s of fluid was drained and a tube was left to drain any remaining fluid.
The next plan was to do a bone marrow biopsy to determine what kind of leukemia.
An Oncologist came to do the test. He said that he would then refer Taylor to a doctor at Tulane Medical Center because they specialize in Leukemia.
Imagine having a Cajun Injector that you use to season a chicken stuck into your hip bone and then grinded around to find the right spot. That is a bone marrow biopsy. Taylor’s bone marrow was not in good shape but it was sent off to be analyzed.
A few days later, Taylor was transferred by ambulance to Tulane. First thing they did was shove a swab up his nose and he got another negative COVID-19 result! He was then brought to a room and after quite some time, two doctors came in to do another bone marrow biopsy. The one from before did not get all the results needed. So, the Cajun injector torture took place again. Taylor was then transferred to the Bone marrow unit for the night.
I am going to fast forward just a little because this is a long story for such a short journey.
It was eventually determined that Taylor has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It basically means that his white blood cells are not behaving properly and his platelets are really low. It is aggressive and fast moving. It is not described in stages like other cancers. But, they determine how to treat it on if it has spread beyond the bone marrow. Taylor’s has spread to his lymph nodes, heart and spleen. The fluid that was around his heart was a result of the AML. Therefore, they started a very aggressive treatment plan of chemo that was for 7 days and 24 hours a day.
Taylor has completed that round of chemo and his blood work is looking good. On Monday the 6th, he will have another bone marrow biopsy. It needs to come back without cancer cells.
God has been carrying Taylor every step of the way. It has not been easy. But, doors that should not have been opened were opened! God keeps putting all the right people in all the right places! This is going to be hard. But, Taylor is surrounded by so many great people that love and support him. Please reach out to Taylor when you have a moment and send him an encouraging message. Beating this disease will happen because of the positive influence from everyone. Remember him and his family in your prayers. God is moving in Taylor’s life already. Let what God can do through Taylor’s healing make a difference in every one of you! We serve a Mighty God that CAN do ALL things!
