COVID19 mask response - help donate PPE in BC

Please help!
BC hospitals are running critically low on PPE & supplies for frontline workers -- doctors, nurses & healthcare staff who are treating COVID-19 patients. This isn’t just about Vancouver - this is everywhere. After we help source PPE to hospitals here, we will do our best to distribute to other hospitals around the country based on funding. Ideally we are aiming to bridge any gaps we can, while larger government initiatives are being rolled out, to help keep frontline healthcare workers safe.
Last week, we discovered that our packaging suppliers overseas have connections to certified PPE suppliers. We immediately ordered 10,000 FDA approved N95 masks that are set to arrive next week. As of March 26th, Dr. Bonnie Henry said burn rates of PPE are much higher than expected and currently at critical levels. We started this fundraising campaign to firstly secure N95 masks & surgical masks - and if funds permit our suppliers also have other critically needed PPE like gloves and gowns that we will purchase.
ALL donations from this GoFundMe will go directly to the purchase and delivery of N95 masks, surgical masks and other PPR for frontline healthcare workers in Emergency Rooms and Intensive care units.
We applaud other groups across Canada raising funds and organizing donation drives for PPE like Knix, students at UBC BC Medical Student COVID-19 Response Group and many more.
OUR GOAL
We’re starting small with 10,000 N95 masks ($22,839 USD) and if we are able to raise more funds, we will place additional orders.
Every dollar counts. The cost of one N95 mask right now is $2.28 USD and the prices are rising daily as the influx of need and orders continues to rise. We have already placed the order for these 10,000 masks and need your help covering the costs. We need to raise as much funds as possible urgently so we can help get ahead of this need as hospitals continue to reach emergency levels for PPE products.
WHO WE ARE
We are the team behind Blume, a personal care and education startup based in Vancouver.
FAQ
Why aren’t the hospitals & government ordering these masks directly?
Hospitals as well as government agencies are trying their best to procure masks. However, due to supply chain limitations and global competition, they are currently experiencing extreme shortages. Also, hospitals in the US are running out of funding. As a fast moving startup, we are leveraging our strength to source, move quickly and the lack of red tape to ACT NOW.
How are you distributing the masks?
We are in contact with Fraser Health and government agencies in BC, who will help us distribute masks where they are most needed.
Are donations tax deductible?
Currently, donations are not tax-deductible. If you know of a registered charity in this space that would like to sponsor our effort, we would love to partner with them. Until then, we have realized that the need is so urgent that we must move forward and hope that you will donate.
If you are a healthcare professional in need of PPE:
If we raise additional funds, we will try our best to help get you PPE as quickly as possible. We'll add a form you can fill out to contact us once we hit our initial goal! <3
