Loki's Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) Surgery
Donation protected
Hi my name is Abby and this morning was one of the worst mornings. Michael and I woke up to our 2 year old orange tabby, Loki, crying in severe pain. Our loving and cuddly boy wouldn't let us get near him. We immediately knew something was wrong.
We scooped him up and took him the emergency vet. An X-ray revealed a broken femur that involves his pelvis and hip. It was also revealed that he has an underlining condition called hip dysplasia, most likely from a growth plate development issue at. birth. He is in significant pain and needs surgery immediately to fix the broken femur and address the hip dysplasia.
Loki will be getting a surgery called Femoral Head Osteotomy or FHO surgery. A surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip by removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone). This surgery will allow him to live a LONG and HAPPY life so of course, without hesitation, the answer was yes do the surgery.
It is no secret that emergency veterinary care is expensive and finically straining. Loki's surgery, hospital stay, medications, and X rays is estimated to cost $5,000-$6,000, with physical therapy most likely in Loki's future. Michael and I are fully prepared to pay whatever cost to help our buddy but would appreciate any contributions to the cause!
Michael and I first met Loki when he was only 4 weeks old. I held him in my palm as I found out we shared the same birthday. It is the first animal Michael and I rescued together. He means a lot to us and we love him with all our heart. Even if you can't make a donation, please send positive thoughts to Loki for a safe surgery and speedy recovery!
Thank you,
Abby & Michael
