BCTGM Local 358 Strike Support
On August 16th, Members of BCTGM Local 358 in Richmond Virginia, went on strike against Nabisco/Mondelez International.
These dedicated workers of Nabisco, are not receiving pay while they are on strike.
We are fundraising to help our BCTGM Members get through this difficult time and supply our strike line. This is not a vacation nor time off. Workers are walking in the heat and rain to stand up for their rights.
This is a Movement!
Nabisco wants to take away employee benefits and ultimately reduce workers wages by changing work schedules from 8 hours to 12 hours, thus removing the overtime potential. These newly proposed 12 hour shifts, will make our work/life balance extremely difficult to manage with families and small children.
In 2016, they did away with our Pensions, exchanging them for 401K plan that pays pennies on the dollar. Those who have planned retirement for the last 25 to 40 plus years, are faced with the possibility, retirement might not happen as they've planned for all this time, due to the switch to this new 401K plan.
While we are being asked to sacrifice, Nabisco has has shown profitable gains, especially during the recent Covid -19 pandemic, where workers were deemed "essential", working consistently through the pandemic to provide for the company.
We are fighting corporate greed to keep what we paid for and sacrificed in prior contracts, to maintain the benefits we have. Now the Company is trying to take those back. Corporate Greed should not be allowed to make all the rules for our families.
