BC Wildfire Aircraft Contract Info

A few weeks ago I submitted a request to the Government for information about BC Wildfire Aircraft contracts, how they are negotiated, and whether they represent a proper use of Taxpayer dollars especially given the history of campaign donations between ConAir and the BC Government.


The Government has indicated the request will require a fee of $1200, and as much as "seven times that" ($8400!?) to complete.  This is an outrage for information that should naturally be public already.  This is a way to stifle information and keep the public in the dark.

1000 people donating $8 would provide enough money for the request to be completed in full and show the government they can't hide information behind huge paywalls.

The information request currently has a time limit to the end of the month to be completed.  

Below is the actual Information Request that was sent to the Government.  Please donate so we can have this information released and analyzed to ensure our taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely, and effectively to keep us safe and to the benefit all residents and potential businesses in BC.

"Records indicating the number of firefighting aircraft the province had on contract since the 2010 forest firefighting season, broken down annually by company and model and whether it was signed in advance, on call or on a master standing offer basis;

The costs associated with each of those aircraft, including the initial contracts, costs to run and fuel the planes, crew costs and any additional costs;

A copy of the contract(s) that Conair has signed with the province for the 2016 firefighting season ; "

If more money is raised than is needed to complete the request, I will donate the money to the BC Burn Fund .

The public should not have to pay for information for a government that represents it however, by supporting this campaign you will show them that exorbitant bills will not stop a public that wishes to see vital information.
