University Blood Initiative: COVID-19 & More
Donation protected
We are the University Blood Initiative (UBI) and it is our mission to empower local blood centers and ensure the next generation of blood donors by mobilizing an organized network of dedicated young leaders.
Our movement began in 2017 at the University of Chicago. A small coalition of students was formed, motivated by the desire to give back to the patients at the University of Chicago Medicine. These students developed a specialized model that allowed them to succeed beyond anyone's expectations. Within a year, their efforts increased the in-center donation rate many times over.
Our model, which harnesses the brilliance and abilities of the younger generations, is a solution to the current issues plaguing America's blood supply: low donor rates, disengaged youth, and closure of local centers.
The devastating impact of COVID-19 on this country's blood supply only heightens are saliency.
All this year, we have been working to launch new chapters on University campuses all over the country. To this end, we have established connections with several centers as well as with America's Blood Centers.
In response to COVID-19, we have also launched an immediate relief campaign called COVID-19 Code Red(#DonateRed) . The purpose of this campaign is to organize Code Red Responders across the country to advocate for local centers to maintain a steady blood supply throughout this crisis.
We aim to support local centers at little to no cost, but we ourselves need funds to operate. We need your help to maintain our efforts now and in the future. Donations will go towards infrastructure, volunteer support, and other business-related expenses.
Thank you in advance for your support.
