Hi, my name is Jamie Aponte and I am fundraising to support my husbands dreams as his birthday wish! I originally had plans to throw him a big bash for his birthday in July, however his wishes every year around his birthday have always been to help him by contributting to the sucess of his goals. I truely don't know anyone that loves what they do so much that they would consider it a great joy and gift to spend time and/or money to assist him in achieving his goals instead of throwing parties and buying gifts. My husband is unique in this way and I love him for it. Everything he does, he does with others in mind, always, and this year I'm listening.

Manny finds it difficult to ask for assistance, but yet he is a person who aspires to help others all the time. He has a vision, a concept that combines the art of barbering with men's mental wellness and therapy. While he throroughly enjoys the craft of cutting hair, to him, there are more important aspects to address than just achieving a crisp line or a seamless fade.

While maintaining a clean and presentable appearance can boost confidence, it is often the case that beneath the surface, men are grappling with insecurities. Many of them were raised to be tough, conditioned to believe that expressing their emotions is a sign of weakness. Consequently, they struggle to communicate their feelings and silently bear their burdens until they can no longer contain them, sometimes resorting to toxic behaviors.

During Manny's childhood, the barbershop always felt like a safe haven. The barbers were like family, cracking jokes, inquiring about his education, and offering life advice. There is something uniquely comforting about an environment, a place where one can truly be themselves and discuss matters that would otherwise remain unspoken. That is something he wants to incorportate in his business.

Now, more than ever, we are convinced that this fusion is necessary. With males accounting for up to 80% of suicide rates, it is crucial to prioritize men's mental health, particularly within the Black and Latino communities. Given the current state of affairs, including the pandemic, political unrest, and racial tensions, it feels as though we are more divided than ever. And when faced with trauma, the worst thing we can do is isolate ourselves. Community is essential; it is how we survive. They say it takes a village to raise a child, yet 86% of single parents are mothers. Often, it is women who bring their sons to the barbershop, a moment that is typically shared with a father.

Recognizing this, he aims to provide mentorship and community outreach. This involves not only visiting various locations to offer haircuts and engage in conversations but also following up with the individuals we serve, building relationships, and fostering accountability. He has enlisted the support of licensed therapists, and this mobile barbershop is just the first step towards his ultimate goal. He envisions establishing a center where we can provide these services to clients free of charge. In the meantime, he has personally funded this initiative entirely through his income from cutting hair.

All funds collected will be allocated towards completing the mobile van, covering LLC fees, and securing trademarks. Additionally, these funds will enable us to organize upcoming events, such as assisting men in recovery from drug addiction, where he would collaborate with various organizations and churches. Every step of this journey will be documented, and the names of all those who contribute will be prominently displayed on a wall within the center once it is established.

I personally, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who is able to contribute financially. As someone who has been with him everystep of the way I know this would mean so much to him. Ahora, más que nunca, estamos convencidos de que esta fusión es necesaria.
