Imagine waking up at 2 a.m. chocking on smoke and seeing your home ablaze in a wall of fire.

This is what the Benitez family experienced on the morning of July 19th. Gabriel, his wife and two teenage children lived in a 1 bedroom apartment in Los Ángeles, CA, when their world was turned upside down. His daughter woke up chocking and yelled to wake the rest of the family as the fire grew. Within minutes, nearly everything they owned went up in flames. Gabriel struggled to get out as the smoke overcame him but he was able to get his family to safety. They thank God that everyone made it out alive. Gabriel and his son had to be treated for smoke inhalation by the paramedics, and the entire family continues deal with nightmares and the trauma of that night. What’s worse, is the ongoing trauma of the uncertainty of their future.

Currently, the family is living next to the burned apartment in the parking lot. They shelter under a pop-up canopy covering the sides with blankets given by neighbors to shade from the hot sun. With only a couple of mattresses on the floor and some essentials from neighbors, they have no where to go and are in dire need of help. Please consider helping this family rise from the ashes and get a new start. The landlord has claimed to not have any insurance to help them and has asked them to leave after being loyal tenants for 19 years.

Gabriel is a hard worker who puts in long hours as a laborer to provide for his family. His wife, a dedicated mother, has sacrificed a great deal for her children. Their son has been accepted to Cal State LA and is hoping to attend this fall as a freshman. Their daughter was ready to celebrate her Quinceañera (15th birthday party) but her dress was lost in the blaze. Together, we can give this family hope for their future by helping them get a new apartment where they can feel safe and begin to heal from this horrible tragedy. Ayuda esta familia LEVANTARSE de las cenizas.

Imagínate despertar a las 2 de la mañana ahogándote por el humo, y vez tu casa envuelta en llamas.

Esto es lo que se encontró la familia Benítez en la mañana del 19 de julio. Gabriel, su mujer y sus dos hijos adolescentes vivían en un apartamento en Los Ángeles, California, cuando su mundo se les volteó. Su hija se despertó espantada y gritó para despertar al resto de la familia mientras el fuego crecía. En pocos minutos, casi todo lo que poseían ardió en llamas. Gabriel luchó por salir mientras el humo le ganaba, pero pudo poner a su familia a salvo. Gracias a Dios, todos salieron con vida. Gabriel y su hijo tuvieron que ser tratados por los paramédicos por la inhalación de humo. Toda la familia sigue viviendo con esta pesadilla y el trauma de esa noche. Lo que es peor, es que sigue la incertidumbre de su futuro.

Actualmente, la familia vive en el estacionamiento junto al apartamento quemado. Se están quedando bajo un toldo desplegable donde los laterales son cubiertos con mantas donadas por los vecinos para protegerse del caluroso sol. Con sólo un par de colchones en el suelo y algunos artículos de primera necesidad de los vecinos, no tienen adónde ir y necesitan urgentemente ayuda. Por favor, considera la posibilidad de ayudar a esta familia a resurgir de sus cenizas y a tener un nuevo comienzo. El propietario ha alegado que no tiene ningún seguro para ayudarles y les ha pedido que se vayan después de haber sido inquilinos fieles durante 19 años.

Gabriel es un gran trabajador que dedica muchas horas como obrero para mantener a su familia. Su mujer, una madre entregada, se ha sacrificado mucho por sus hijos. Su hijo ha sido aceptado en Cal State LA y espera asistir este otoño como estudiante de primer año. Su hija estaba lista para celebrar su fiesta de quince años, pero su vestido se perdió en el incendio. Juntos, podemos dar a esta familia esperanza para su futuro ayudándoles a conseguir un nuevo apartamento donde puedan sentirse seguros y empezar a sanar de esta horrible tragedia.
