Be Edinburgh’s Voice 4 Woman Life Freedom in Iran

Hello! We are Woman Life Freedom Edinburgh! We are a collective of professionals, academics, activists, and artists based in the city. We want to share with you the voices and stories of the brave, fiery, smart, and incredible women in Iran who want one simple thing - to choose whether or not they wish to wear the hijab and how.
Around the world, across time and space, women's bodies have long been the battleground for competing and contrasting visions of the world.
At different times in the modern history of Iran, women have been forced to unveil (in 1936 under Reza Shah Pahlavi to project Iran's modernity to the West) and then forced to veil (in 1979 under Ayatollah Khomeini, and ever since).
Women's bodies should NOT be the sites for these ideological battlegrounds.
Women in Iran want the dignity of making their own choices about how they dress, autonomy over how they live their lives, freedom to obtain a passport and travel outside the country without the permission of a male guardian, the right to divorce and the custody of their children, and the simple joy of public singing.
Women in Iran want equal access to employment, equal recourse to justice. Their lives should not legally be worth half that of men.
Would you agree?
If so, would you be willing to help be a voice for them and enable us to tell their stories?
Your donations will help us to
- organise exhibitions, speakers, talks, film screenings, and storytelling
- create art, posters, and flyers for engaging in peaceful protest, marches, and vigils
- galvanise people like you in Edinburgh to make a difference and, thereby,
- amplify the voices of women in Iran.
