Be Carolyn's Valentine

This is Carolyn and her chihuahua Blanca. While driving to work this morning on Valentine's Day, I encountered her on the corner of Scottsdale and Shea. Carolyn has cystic fibrosis, and a cancerous mass in her left lung. She is not homeless, nor does she use drugs or alcohol. She worked in domestic violence shelters as her career until recently. She sews dog beds, pet blankets, and pet sweaters for extra money to pay for her medical co-pays, and food.

My name is Brooke Sterling. I have cystic fibrosis, 5 chihuahuas, and I too worked as a street social worker, and in domestic violence shelters for 20 years. 

The difference between me and Carolyn is one thing: I have better health insurance.
