INTRODUCTION

Radiant Smiles Community Events (RSCE) CIC was incorporated in March 2024 with the sole purpose of bringing Radiant Smiles to the faces of the vulnerable, disadvantaged or underprivileged people in our Community by organising small and big-scale entertainment Events.

The people we would like to bring the smiles to include underprivileged children living in the slums or orphanages in India; Elderly people living in care homes and Hospices or isolated and living on their own in the UK; or youths who need some empowerment to do something positive and productive for the betterment of our communities.

Our aim to raise enough money for Event that we are organising in Delhi (in Aug 2024) for 200 – 250 children in association with two NGOs, one being Bal Jyoti Yuva Manch (https://baljyotiyuvamanch.com/) and the other an Orphanage called Lal Bahadur Shastri Sudarshnam Bal Ashra.
Before dwelling into RSCE’s future plans we would like to share our past experience to help you understand how RSCE came into existence and at the same time to show our commitments: perseverance, determination, hard work and willingness to succeed.

HISTORY

In 2022, having raised donations of £2K, Raj, one of the two Directors of RSCE, decided to do something for the underprivileged kids in India.

He could have easily taken the simpler route by gathering lots of children and their families from the streets and then provide them with food and some of the everyday essentials with the money he raised.

But he had a very different vision for this event. He wanted to provide an experience to these underprivileged children where they felt like it was a special day for them and something they had never experienced in their lives. He wanted to organise a premium-level event for them.

BOOKING VENUE

With the help of family, friends and some business associates, Raj started to look for the venue. His family and friends gave options that ranged from doing the event in an underground car park to someone's garden which raised plenty of health and Safety issues in Raj’s mind.

One friend kindly managed to assist him in booking a decent hall that was suitable enough for the event in mind and which complied with all the health and Safety and children's security.

BOOKING FOOD

After booking the venue he started to look for caterers. Again, the food options he got were not up to the standard of what he had in mind for the event. Eventually, after liaising with 10-15 caterers he managed to finalise the high-quality dishes that he wanted for his special guests.

BOOKING ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES

Next, it was time to book the entertainment activities such as Bouncy castle, Body paint, Funny Mascots, Magician and DJ. Fortunately, the Venue person gave the contact info of various vendors and after several hours and heavy negotiations, a few of them were shortlisted and eventually booked for the event.

INVITING GUEST

So, Guess what was left now? Of course the guests for the event, i.e. CHILDREN! He thought this would be a piece of cake because who in the right mind wouldn't want to come to a FREE party with so many giveaway goodies!! Oh boy, was he wrong!! It looks like he completely underestimated this task!

He went to a few slum areas, surviving bites from the street dogs and monkeys on the way, near his house. He approached the families explaining to them that he had booked a hall for the event where the children would get food, entertainment, etc.. They looked at him like they had seen an alien talking in a foreign language. Some even thought maybe it was a prank for some YouTube channel. After visiting various houses and getting similar responses he knew there had to be a change in the strategy.

He created and printed a small attractive colourful flyer and described the venue location and the goodies and activities for the children after which people started to take him a bit more seriously. Nevertheless, they were still a bit cautious about Raj’s intentions for such a noble cause.

After a couple of days of persistently going to these people and also providing a copy of his UK Driving licence, gradually people started to trust him more and finally committed to the scheduled event. Some parents, understandably, didn't want to send their kids on their own and insisted that some grown-ups would go to this event for the children's safety which Raj promptly agreed to.

Up to 200 children including their families agreed to attend the event and some of them even were eager to do some stage performances to show off their talents.

ORDERING ESSENTIALS

Raj was excited that he now had enough children for the charity event and bought all the essentials such as Water Bottles, Lunch Boxes, school Bags, Chocolates, Fruit juices and Crisps to give during the event. He spent the whole night packing them with the help of some of his family and friends.

Also, bearing in mind the inconvenience and the safety of the kids he hired a coach that would take everyone to the venue and also drop them off after the event.

THE BIG DAY AND CHALLENGES

So, the BIG DAY finally arrived! First, it was raining like cats and dogs. Raj, totally drenched, went to the place where he had agreed to meet everyone. And guess what! ONLY FOUR OR FIVE KIDS SHOWED UP!! He had the coach guy who was waiting at the pick-up location constantly calling him up because there was already an hour delay.

Raj frantically started going to the houses of everyone who had agreed to attend. Some had a change of heart and mind and others made excuses that they were too sick to travel or had other commitments. Finally with great difficulty, and an hour and a half delay, Raj managed to persuade 100 people to come to the event.

AFTER THE EVENT

The event was INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL! Everyone had a TIME OF THEIR LIIVES, and they appreciated all the activities and the gifts they got. All the kids who had been to the event went back and told the rest of the children what they had really missed! Talk about word-of-mouth marketing! :)

The following day when Raj went back to the area he was greeted like a Bollywood celebrity by the kids and their families especially those who had attended the event.

He got to know the real reason why some kids had cancelled at the last minute. someone had spread the rumours that people who come from outside India to do such charitable events have sinister motives such as stealing body parts (Like kidneys) of the little kids. This understandably, scared most of them and their parents refused to send them to the event. Raj jokingly asked all the kids who had been to the event to verify if all their body parts were in the right place.

After that, Raj constantly visited the kids and their families with soft drinks, chocolates, and crisps, played various musical games with them, donated books, read stories to them, and encouraged them to read more. He also helped choreograph Bollywood dances in public parks. He also had heated arguments with some local grownups in the park who constantly kept on threatening with verbal and physical abuse to the underprivileged children.

By the time it was Raj’s turn to come back to the UK, he had created a very special bond with all these kids. They had become a part of his family. It was a very emotional moment to see the tears in the eyes of these kids whom he had met just a few weeks ago.

So, the main question now is what is the purpose of this GoFundMe page? Although we have briefly mentioned it above in the INTRODUCTION section. To get a better picture, please keep reading.

OUR VISION

After coming from India Raj and his good friend, Sam (who btw also participated in a charity event for children in 2018 in Nepal) decided to open the non-profit CIC (RSCE) so that they could raise more awareness for the things very close to their hearts i.e. helping Disadvantaged Children in India, Youth Empowerment and bringing smiles on the faces of the isolated Elderly people in the UK by providing all of them musical entertainment.

We are so proud to say that our first ever ticketed Charity Bollywood event is scheduled on Sat, 13th July 2024.

The main objective of this charity-ticketed event is to provide premium-class entertainment to our guests such as Fire Dance, various Bollywood performances by different groups, Dance Workshops for adults and kids, 360 Video Booth, 3-course meal with complimentary soft drinks. And all this for just £30 per adult and £18 for kids. Any money raised will be going towards the event for the 200- 250 underprivileged kids in India.
