Community, Roadside, & Beach Cleanup & Trash Pickup

2024/2025 Winter Updates - Colder weather means I can get to some of those tougher cleanups that we've been putting off for a while. Vegetation dies back, insects are no longer a problem, no poison ivy to deal with, and its not as horribly hot, so I can get to stuff that would otherwise cause me to sweat to death (think moving 400 tires uphill in the summer, no way!). I'll be sure to get out and document those cold weather cleanups. Here some for starters!

2023 - Fall / Winter Updates - Closing out the last of 2023 with a few more cleanups around my every trashed up community. Here's to less single use plastic in 2024

After getting tired of constantly seeing endless amounts of trash on the side of the road wherever I go, I figured I can do something about it and at least clean up what little bit I can. If it's a relatively safe area to pull over, I'll do my best to get to it and clean it up and keep up after it a few times a year.

I realize this will not make a huge dent, but every small bit helps, and maybe others will pitch in and help clean up their streets and communities as well. Occasionally when time permits I'll meet up with larger groups for cleanups. Most of the time I'll load up my truck with trash collected and call it quits when my truck bed is full or when I need to wrap things up to make it to the dump in time. FYI - the dump near me has a 4-tire per day limit, so this usually comes into play when I get a large number of tires collected.

I will use the funds donated to pay for gas (round trips to the dump, I try to haul all of the trash I collect) - ended in 2021), supplies (bags, (lots of bags), trash grabbers (these breaks often), gloves, coffee for myself and friends that help for starters). I have not been charged for tires yet at the dump, but they have a 4-tire limit so I try to adhere to that. When I get my 500th tire, I'll post an update for that occasion as well. Currently at 289 Tires (5/18/2019), 317 tires (11/17/2019), 406 Tires (12/24/2019), and 800+ Tires (2/14/2020).

*I will not post cumulative tire updates any longer since it's getting difficult to keep an accurate count. Dec 2021 - well north of 900 tires at this point, but I am no longer keeping cumulative counts since it's so difficult to keep an accurate count.

* 12/24/2021 COVID-19 update. Well with the lost year of 2020-2021, I have been out less frequently, but rest assured I am still doing cleanups when time permits. Some cleanups focused on the beaches during the summer due to remote working conditions, but as we go into 2022 I will plan to keep posting regular updates to keep you all aware of my cleanup efforts.

Jan 2022 -- back into some regular cleanups with the colder weather helping

March 2022 -- been getting out regularly and cleaning up spots around town that are problematic. I have started separating all aluminum cans for the past 2 years and I cash those in separately to help cover some costs. With the price of Aluminum cans around $0.50/lb, this adds up quickly.

April 2022 -- been getting out pretty regularly on most weekends, I hope to continue the trend as time and schedules permit, and as always I'll keep posting the photo and video updates to Youtube and linking them here. Every donation helps me get supplies and cleanups.

I am hoping to collect 5-10 bags per weekend, time and weather permitting. Summer is tougher than winter months due to temps, mosquitoes, ticks, poison ivy and growing vegetation, etc.

March 2023 -- Starting off 2023 and closing out 2022 with a bunch of big cleanups. I prefer picking up in the winter months due to less vegetation, no insects and no poison ivy to contend with. As we transition to spring, it's always more challenging due to these factors to get out. I have to scrub my boots and clothes after virtually every cleanup once the poison Ivy pops and is active, so that cuts into my time a bit. And once it's hot, it is nearly impossible to do any large tire cleanups due to the amount of physical exertion required, especially if you have a steep hill to deal with. Anyways, here's to more DeTrashing in 2023~

Thanks for checking out my page - and a huge thanks to those that have donated and helped out!
