Beach Clean Up Stations For Long Island
Donation protected
Our Beaches are Threatened, and More Plastic Is Coming.
** UPON REACHING OUR GOAL, ALL DONORS WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY HAVING THEIR NAME PLACED ON A COMMUNITY SPONSORED BEACH CLEAN UP STATION**
As we dive deeper into a time period hallmarked by environmental challenges, Relic Sustainability is an organization founded to provide our community members with the opportunity to make positive change.
In the last year, we have established nine Beach Clean-Up Stations on Long Island, from the Village of Westhampton Beach to the Town of Brookhaven. Now working with Suffolk County, and with your help, we can provide beach clean up stations all over Long Island to help facilitate voluntary trash pick up. We see a future vision where our beaches are easily kept clean by collective community driven effort. If we all do a little bit to help, our efforts can make the difference needed to preserve what makes growing up on Long Island special.
What is a beach clean up station?
Our beach clean up stations consist of 100% recycled plastic baskets, held at waist height by a station composed of reclaimed wood, collected and removed from our beaches. Each station features a sign that contains a QR code linking to our website, where pollution information can be reported and aggregated. By facilitating voluntary trash pick up and collecting pollution information, each station serves a node in a greater pollution monitoring network maintained by Relic Sustainability.
How does it work?
It is as simple as taking a basket, collecting what you find, offloading collected debris to the nearby trash can, and returning the basket. By partnering with the municipalities who generously host our stations at their beach access points, collected trash is seamlessly integrated into the town debris removal cycle.
How will your dollars help us?
From help with purchasing hardware, baskets, and signs, to maintenance and the development of technology to help us better track our impact, every dollar donated goes to supporting the future of our coastlines. Your contribution is helping to make a vision of a widespread, autonomously maintained pollution removal network a reality.
Who are we?
Relic Sustainability was founded by childhood friends who grew up seeing negative changes in the health of local bays. Feeling the empowerment and connection of local advocacy, we formed a group focused on connecting the community back to fighting for their local environment.
