Beach Dog Rescue - Mexico

Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya Mexico is a small, rural rescue near the town of Mahahual, Mexico.  We take in dogs who live on the street.  Dogs who are hurt.  Dogs who are starving.  Dogs who have no shelter from the sun or rain.  Dogs who don’t have names. 

We love them, feed them, heal them.  They live in our house like family until they are adopted into homes of their own.  We love what we do.  It is sad and hard and challenging beyond belief, but we could not imagine living our lives any other way.  Seeing a once broken animal learn to play or lean in for a cuddle makes everything in the world seem okay. 

Our programs:

SPAY & NEUTER:   
We are so excited to announce that we are co-hosting a huge sterilization campaign in Mahahual on September 28-29.  We have committed to sponsoring a minimum of 100 animals (dogs & cats).  We also hold smaller campaigns throughout the year.  Our core belief is that sterilization is the only way to make lasting change.  Saving individual dogs is important and needed, but we could never have enough time, money or space.  Most of our donations go toward spays and neuters.

EMERGENCY VET CARE:  
Local rescuers often ask us to support their medical cases.  Most of the issues are mange, broken bones (stray dogs get hit by cars a lot), sexually transmitted tumors and other illnesses resulting from severe malnutrition & dehydration.  Some are street dogs.  Some have owners who can’t afford vet care.  We are happy that we are here to be a resource for the community.  We will never say no to helping an injured, sick or starving animal.

THE RESCUE/SANCTUARY: 
All dogs who come through our door receive vet care.  They are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm & tick-borne diseases, vaccinated and treated for any illnesses they have.  We average about $125 usd per week on dog food. 

ADOPTIONS: 
We try to adopt out dogs locally when possible.  We also partner with rescues & shelters in the US and Canada.  Our dogs have been through so much.  It’s important to place them where they will have the absolute best life.  They deserve it.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE:

8 permanent residents at the rescue

13 dogs in medical foster

14 dogs in treatment with our vets

410 dogs/cats spayed & neutered in our campaigns

68 dogs adopted into loving, forever homes.

Sadly 24 gentle souls were too sick for this world.  They are now at peace.

When we look around at the gorgeous animals sharing our space and those we have placed in loving homes, we smile.  They are safe, loved, off the street.  But our hearts break for all the others who are still out there alone, suffering and scared.  Some days it feels like no matter how many we help; it will never be enough. But we keep trying. Every day we work to help end their suffering. We hope you will help us.  We are stronger together.
