This year marks the 60th anniversary of our beloved synagogue. A synagogue that has so much history and has made an impact on the Gravesend Community, over the years. A few Jewish men gathered together to find a place of worship where they could celebrate and honor their Jewish religion in Gravesend, BK. A Wealthy business man by the name of Fred Trump, who had built his real estate empire in other cities, including Brooklyn, dedicated a portion of his good fortune by donating the land and the synagogue, which still stands today.
Over the years the neighborhood has begun to change, and people who were once members have relocated or passed away. The Beach Haven Jewish Center, which survived on generous donations have started to see the effect. Less people have begun to attend, donations have been minimal and the upkeep of our synagogue has become hard to maintain. Beach Haven Jewish Center never lost faith and hope in the Jewish people of Gravesend and their contributors. Every penny donated has been used to keep our doors open, and provide services and events to accommodate old and new families who have moved into the neighborhood seeking a place of worship.
Small projects have begun with a renovation of the men's bathroom and cleaning of the main synagogue. We are now raising money to help bring back light into the main entrance by changing the facade and entry way so it can look more appealing and welcoming for our old and new members. We would like to keep our doors open for another 60 or 120 more years B"H. We, as a board, want to thank everyone who have contributed over the years and welcome new individuals and families to come and join our growing family for Shabbat dinners, kids programs and holiday events. These wonderful events are run and planned by Rabbi Silver and his wife Rebetzin Sarah Winner-Silver. Our Rabbi and his wife have helped grow the Gravesend Jewish community over the years and always welcome new families to experience the wonderful Jewish traditions and events Beach Haven Jewish Center has to offer. May we continue to grow, bring light and pride to our Jewish heritage and teach our children to love and have faith in Hashem. Amen.
