Beacon Fire: Support Murphy Family in Crisis
Donation protected
My name is Patrick O'Dell many locally know me from Facebook "Dutchess County Scanner Feed" page.
I am writing this on behalf of the Murphy family. On 04/15/25 a house fire with people trapped was called into 911. The house, 9 Alice St in Beacon NY was fully involved with fire from all four sides upon arrival. Despite the efforts of other victims and then Beacons first responders very sadly, an 81 year old man "Gene" Murphy perished in the fire. His 56 year old daughter suffered burns, her 15 year old Grandson suffered very critical burns. He is in Westchester County Medical Center Burn Center with a very long road ahead. A severely physically handicapped 54 year old son was also in the home and escaped with facial burns. Lastly, a 42 year old grandson who was living there to assist with the family members was not home at the time of the fire.
Every piece of clothing and all other possessions were totally lost in the fire. The 3 vehicles were also total losses. While coping with the devastating loss of the family Patriarch 3 additional generations all lost everything due to the severity & speed of the fire leaving nothing salvageable .
Every dollar raised will go to the family for necessities and there are so many expenses. Replacement of everything, expenses of getting to & from the hospital in Valhallla to see the 15 year old in the burn center long term and what that entails without a personal vehicle now, just so much. Long term is totally unknown with so many unique extenuating circumstances and none assisted without anything to fall back on? Short term is no better especially with emergency housing being denied when someone who needs so much assistance to take care of & a child who will remain in the burn unit for a very long time and when he is released will most likely not be able to do much of anything for himself due to the extreme severity of the burns and there locations. Please donate if you can and share this so it is visible to the largest audience possible. I wish there was a true fundraising "goal" but I cannot put a number to so many unknowns, immediately being denied emergency housing is not a good sign of what and how long any type of assistance will happen so it remain open and there will be updates on Markus who has been embraced by so many praying for and cheering him on during this long process. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity assisting this wonderful family.
