Beadle Memorial Church Campaign 2024

Donation protected
The trustees of Beadle Memorial Church started our GoFundMe effort after making the difficult decision to suspend "in church" 2020 summer services to help keep our church supported with the theme "Keep your faith alive, Prayer brings resilience!" We reopened for summer services in 2021 with "Celebrating faith and resilience together" and in 2022 with "Welcome Worship." Last year 2023 we recognize that "God has winked at us" by allowing us to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Cape May Point. This year 2024, we celebrate our memorial garden and meditation bench.

We hope you will join us and other guests of Cape May Point to lift your spirits, feed your faith, and support your continued resilience. We also provide children's summer activity lessons in our "Under the Tree" Sunday School program which occurs during the service. After the service, please join us under the trees for special treats and conversation.

Our church, built by John Wanamaker, an American merchant and religious, civic and political figure, is considered by some to be a proponent of advertising and a "pioneer in marketing". He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as U.S. Postmaster General during the term of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison from 1889 to 1893. He and his associates (the Sea Grove Group) built the church in 1882. It was named for Reverend Elias Beadle, the then-minister of the Second Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The church has operated continuously each summer (except for a few summers in the late 1880s and the pandemic of 2020). It has hosted many famous patrons including President Benjamin Harrison who attended services at Beadle in the summers of 1890 and 1891.

The "Beadle Memorial Presbyterian Association" assumed the responsibilities of the original Sea Grove group in 1910. Over the years the church has been moved twice to accommodate the encroaching sea. First in 1920, to "higher ground" on Yale Avenue and then "inland" to its present site on Cape Avenue.

We look forward to seeing you when you visit Cape May Point for the 2023 season.
Your donation helps support the church activities and other sponsored missions.

We thank you for your support and hope you have a happy summer 2023. If you are fortunate enough to know Beadle or come to Cape May Point, God has winked at you!
