Help Beale St Puppets Tour Russia
Beale Street Puppets from Baltimore, MD has been invited to perform Fairy Caravan as part of the Petrushka World Puppet Carnival in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Beale Street Puppets of Baltimore, MD. In those years, we've performed at hundreds of venues for thousands of children. And as artists, we're proud to say that we've made our way in the world with never a grant or handout. But this trip to Russia is different. It's not a stretch to say that it's the pinnacle for us- a week with other performers, doing shows with our peers from across the globe. As you can imagine, it's difficult for a small company with limited resources to accomplish this.
So we badly, badly want to go. Not only because we were immensely flattered to be asked, of course, but because, in these difficult political times, we firmly believe that it's the arts that make a connection to other countries and cultures. And puppetry, which is primarily viewed by children and families, is a perfect vehicle to let the younger generation know that in essence, we are all alike despite our differences. Cheesy, for sure, but true nonetheless. We are ambassadors- to be sure, on a small scale, but we take it seriously.
The Petrushka World Puppet Carnival is this August 10-20, 2018. In order for us to book tickets within a reasonable amount of time, we'll have to come up with some cash no later than June 10th. Tickets to Yekaterinburg have been in the $1800- 2000 range, and we have three performers and a technician. In addition, each of our show trunks will cost $100 each way; currently the show is in four trunks and our stage, but we're currently trying to make the show lighter and smaller!
Your contribution will go mainly towards airfare and baggage costs- but think of this- you may be paying for us to make a brand new, lighter bubble blowing dragon, too! C'mon, how many times can you say you've paid for a dragon to fly to Russia?
We know not everyone is made of money- we certainly aren't! If you're unable to give at this time, we understand. Still, we'd mightily appreciate it if you could share our link with folks- every little bit helps!
