Help the Beamon Family Receive Life-Saving Care

Sean Beamon and his family need your empathy, support, and generosity now more than ever. Sean’s medical journey has been a head scratcher to some of the top Neurologists and Epileptologists in the world. In fact, Jill and Sean recently faced the terrifying experience of hearing the head of Vanderbilt Hospital Neurology recommend that they seek care elsewhere after admitting the fact that the hospital team had explored all options available to them and still don’t have an answer to what is happening with Sean.
Thus, we are setting this Go Fund Me up to support the Beamon Family as they embark on an uncharted journey. Please take the time to read their story below in entirety as it is the only possible way for you to gain a complete perspective and fully understand their circumstances.
Sean is one of the hardest working people I have ever met. He has always taken care of his family and excelled at work. Sean’s wife of 17 years and my best friend, Jill, is a warrior. She is kind, loyal, so damn strong, and an inspiration in how she has handled this unexpected occurrence in their lives. Together, Sean and Jill have built their life and family with their three amazing children, ages 16, 7 and 4. They have always been a very active family. Sean is a true outdoorsman, an avid fly fisherman, hunter, hiker, camper, and has always shared those experiences with his family. Unfortunately, with the progression of uncontrolled epilepsy, he is no longer able to experience any of the activities he enjoys so much. This family should have the best years ahead of them but now need help offsetting the cost to seek and receive the expertise that Sean so desperately needs at this time.
Recently, the Beamon family has had their strength and faith tested in ways that would make most people crumble. Sean’s health has taken a drastic and unexpected turn over the past year. After moving his family from Colorado to Tennessee to take an incredible job opportunity last year, Sean began having grand mal seizures. But determining the cause of such extreme health concerns has been very difficult. It was not until March of this year that the doctors and epilepsy specialist discovered that Sean is suffering from focal left temporal lobe seizures along with multiple other types of seizures. Sean now faces a pivotal point in his care, and the family is making plans to travel to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
In the meantime, the number and severity of his seizures continues to increase. Since January 2022, Sean has been taken to the hospital by ambulance, Flight-for-Life, and by his frightened wife over 15 times. Sean has had over 10 grand mal seizures in the past 3 months, many lasting over 6 minutes. In just the past few weeks, he was placed in a medical coma and was intubated due to status epilepticus, a very real and life threatening reality of people with uncontrolled seizures. He can no longer drive, his memory is severely affected, he broke his right shoulder and tore his rotator cuff, has broken numerous teeth and torn chunks out of his tongue.
The complicated part of Sean’s diagnosis is that now, after the 6th seizure medication failed, the epilepsy specialist has labeled him as seizure medication resistant. The treatment for people who are seizure medication resistant and are experiencing uncontrolled seizures is not an easy one. As if this was not enough to go through, he has had to take a leave of absence from work. Jill is now his full time caregiver, in addition to raising a teenager and two children under the age of 7, all while maintaining her part time job.
The epilepsy team at Vanderbilt have shared that the only reasonable course of action now is brain surgery at a world-renowned medical facility. Vanderbilit is unable to give him the care that he needs in a timely manner so the Beamon family will be traveling to the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at the Cleveland Clinic.
This Saturday, June 4, Sean will be turning 34 years old. Unfortunately, he will not be spending his birthday fishing, hunting, hiking or camping but rather trying to get the necessary presurgical test done in a timely manner and recovering from any seizure he experiences before the care becomes available. As many of you know, the expense to travel to, stay at, and receive treatment at the Cleveland Clinic is unreachable for many people. However, it’s an expense that Sean and his family now face. What’s worse than the mountain of expenses is what may happen if Sean does not receive that expert care.
The road ahead is long and exhausting. My friend’s strength is necessary to persevere, but that alone will not be enough to pull her family through this pivotal time. We are asking for your help to pay for the expenses for the life saving trip, to help the Beamon family cover bills, and to take care of the children during Sean’s surgery and recovery. Please consider giving to help this family come through the hardest time of their lives. If you are unable to give at this time, please pass the story forward to your networks.
Thank you for your consideration and compassion.
