My name is J. Bean Schwab (or Jilly) and I’m very grateful that you’ve landed on this page! I’m a trans non-binary theatre maker who’s about to undergo gender-affirming Top Surgery on August 4th, just in time for my 29th birthday!
I decided it was the right time for me to undergo surgery to alleviate many, many years worth of chest dysphoria and chronic pain in my neck and spine. I’m also at a very high risk of developing breast cancer, and this procedure will reduce my chances of developing cancer by about 85-95%.
In full transparency, the funds I’m seeking are to help pay for the cost of post op-care items I will need for my recovery, and for the cost of post-op physical therapy.
The cost of my actual surgery is covered fully by my insurance, which is an enormous privilege. There are so many barriers to this life-saving surgery that simply should not exist, especially for people who have to pay out of pocket. Will you help me break down another person’s financial barriers so that they can experience the gender-euphoria they deserve?
Half of the total donations will be given to For the Gworls, a Black trans*-led non-profit organization that provides financial aid for gender-affirming surgeries and costs-of-living for other beautiful trans beans on their way to their desired selves.
