Bear needs emergency vet care
Donation protected
Hi everyone ! My name is Felicia and I am requesting help for my 8 year old dog Bear Able. If you knew him as a puppy, he was very unbearable…..but as he has gained some white hairs and wisdom he is now living up to his name Bearable. He came into my life back in 2014 after I had a house fire and lost all of my pets. He has been my best friend since the moment I held him in my arms saying….you look like a baby bear. He has been through everything life has thrown at us and never ceases to keep me smiling, even through my hardest times. I can’t imagine life without him …. I need him for many many years to come. He has 2 cat brothers which he adores even though they make his life difficult. He is a snack lover, a bed hog, attention seeking one of a kind puppy. He never meets a stranger.
January 30, 2022 was any old lazy Sunday. He went outside and had his breakfast as normal. I was in the office and I heard him let out a yelp. I figured the cat must have gotten him for some reason or another. A few hours pass and he wasn’t acting like his normal self. When we went to pick him up he was tense and seemed to be In some pain. We took him to an emergency vet and they prescribed him muscle relaxers and pain pills. We were told to follow up with our vet in a week. Things took a turn for the worst when we woke up This morning, January 31,2022. He was hiding under the bed and when we got him out we noticed he had trouble moving on his own. We thought that it could have been all the medication. He was able to eat breakfast, but when it was time to go outside for his normal walk -he refused. Morning walks are his favorite so I knew things were getting worse. I picked him up and realized he was not able to move his back legs. When I took him outside, we realized he was completely paralyzed from the waist down and unable to go potty. Well, he has been rushed back to the vet and we are awaiting good news. They gave us an estimate of $4000 for surgery and the need for a wheelchair and possibly rehabilitation. We have not yet gotten the final diagnosis, but they are ruling out fractures and spinal stroke. As we remain hopeful, we want to prepare for everything that happens next. If you are not in a position to donate, all I ask is that you please share with others. I am also requesting advice from anyone who has been placed in a similar situation. At this point my baby needs me….but I need him so much more. Thank you in advance!!!!!
An update on Bear 1/31/22
They are keeping him overnight for observation of bladder/bowels to be able to inform us of aftercare. The next few months are going to be long , but we are willing to do whatever we have to to keep him comfortable and happy. We are keeping faith that he will recover and begin to walk again. Please keep us in your thoughts as we go through this journey with him ❤️

Bear is home eating and drinking! We are making a lot of adjustments to keep him comfy and happy. The cats sure did miss him. He is very alert and just wants to be in our company. If anyone has dealt with similar issues, can you please recommend products that helped make the transition easy.

Well, he has been home for a little over 24 hours. After his meds, he slept very well. We let him cuddle in bed with us as long as possible before moving him somewhere safe. He slept through the night with no issues. We are getting better at helping him pee. I will admit, I’ve got more pee on me than the ground, but hey!!! It’s out Medication delivery is easy, because he is so easily fooled by treats. We did have a little poop, hoping for more soon. Never have I ever been so excited to find poop on a blanket. But I had to save the best for last…I was laying with him on my break and decided to tickle the pads on his back feet( usually he will bark and tell me to stop, but he made just a little movement. At that moment, I think we both knew that eventually everything will be okay. Moving forward I will call it the tickle test If you are keeping up with our journey…..Thank you ❤️

I know it’s an early in the day update, but he made so much progress already. When playing with his feet, he had slight reaction in both legs. We were outside soaking up some Florida sunshine…looked over and he was peeing on his own. It was just a dribble, but each day he is giving me more hope. I knew his stubbornness would be a good thing one day.
