Beat SCAD & Cardiac Risk in the Young ❤️‍

Donation protected
As many of you know, I suffered a heart attack in April due to a rare condition called SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection is a tear in the artery of the heart - I had two tears!).

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a pretty fit & healthy 48 year old mother of two (age 11 &16).

SCAD is an under-diagnosed heart condition that can’t currently be predicted or prevented.

The majority of SCAD cases are in young- to middle-aged women. SCAD patients have few or none of the traditional risk factors associated with heart disease (atherosclerosis).

More research is needed to understand why fit, healthy people suddenly develop SCAD which can be fatal, cause heart failure, cardiac arrest, require heart bypass surgery, stents or medical management.

BEAT SCAD is a patient-led charity that aims to raise awareness of SCAD, support SCAD patients and their families and raise funds for research into the condition. Their mission is threefold: Awareness, Support and Research.

Another charity close to my heart (pardon the pun!) is C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the young).

CRY’s Vision: Preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.

CRY offers subsidised ECG and Echocardiogram screening to all young people between the ages of 14 & 35.
All of CRY’s public events are free to attend.
Each screening event can cost thousands of pounds to run!

My son was lucky enough to attend one of these screening days recently.

The local CRY page was set up in memory of Joseph Leyland by his family. Joe was a student at the same high school as my children (Painsley Catholic College) in Cheadle.

FUNDRAISING

I have set up this fundraising page to raise money which will be split equally between the two charities.

Recently an incredible lady (Louise Waldron-Kelly) has come forward to fundraise for our page by running the Chester Triple!

The Chester Triple consists of 3 races:
a 10k run
a half marathon
a full marathon

The 10k she ran in March, the half was in May and the final leg, the full marathon will be ran on Sunday 2nd of October.

Apparently Louise will do anything for a bit of bling, so when she has completed all 3 she will get an additional triple medal.

My daughter and I will also be selling our baking creations to raise funds.
