BEAT to help people like us

Hi! We are Evie and Dulcie and on the 18th May 2024 we are doing an inflatable 5k fun run to raise money for BEAT, an eating disorder charity which helps people at all stages of illnesses related to disordered eating to begin their journey to recovery and sustain this, whilst also supporting their friends and family members. We met in December 2023 when we were both in a psychiatric inpatient unit due to our struggles with Anorexia Nervosa, OCD, ASC, and multiple other issues. We have both struggled with Anorexia Nervosa since we were preteens, spending the last few years in and out of general hospital for months at a time until we were both admitted to Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital (KMAH) in Staplehurst, Kent; (Evie in late October and Dulcie in early December). Neither of us saw a way out, our eating disorder cognitions were so entrenched that we didn’t see a way out, however with the support of the people around us we have both recently been discharged from KMAH (Evie in late February and Dulcie in late March) and have returned to normal weights and have regular and intuitive eating. At one point we were on bed rest being fed supplement forcefully, unable to do any sort of exercise, constantly harming ourselves, and even trying to take our own lives. For these reasons, it is such an achievement for both of us to be given the go ahead to exercise freely; which is why we decided to make the most of this and raise money for an incredibly important cause. BEAT are critical in helping those struggling and any money will help due to the worsening mental health crisis all over the UK, particularly in those with ASC. We would like to thank our friends and family and the staff at KMAH for helping us live our best lives we deserve, particularly Tara, Ellie, Nat, Rob, Ali, Aiden, and Khadine. We couldn’t have got this far without you!
