Family Meal for NYers

Today is my birthday! Typically my birth-day becomes a birth-week or month, celebrating with many of you by my side breaking bread and corking bottles. Over the years the setting may have changed - my home, The Greenbrier, and more recently the Michelin Guide's list of New York restaurants.
Sadly, this is not the case this year womp womp. Don't cry for me Argentina. I will be home safe and satiated in my cozy apartment. If you are reading this, it is likely you will be too. It definitely has me thinking not only of food shortages, but of the incredible experiences and memories I have had where the "family meal" is central.
Job losses are hitting record highs leaving millions to wonder where their next meal might come from, or worse how they are going to feed their families. I simply cannot imagine. Over 1/3 of New York City Pantries have already closed their doors due to unprecedented demand and those that are open are struggling to meet the need. I for one have felt rather helpless during this crisis, told to stay at home while NYC organizations have ceased their volunteer programs. However, there appears to be a simple way to help.
With a donation to City Harvest:
- $52 helps feed a family of 3 for 4 months (don't ask me how they do it)
- $135 help feed 33 NYers for a month.
We can ensure Family Meals continue with parents and children gathered around tables, laughing and comforting each other until this horrendous period is behind us and friends can also gather around our tables once again.
Further, Blackrock is currently matching donations up to $750, 000 so these dollars will go further and needless to say, I will kick it off myself.
