LOUIS' WALK - 600 MILES IN 6 MONTHS
This is our second walk for Louis.
Louis was born during July 2019 weighing 1lb 11oz at 25 weeks and 2 days. From the start, Louis experienced a lot of medical problems which caused heartache for us all, but more importantly pain and suffering for Louis. He had bleeds to both sides of his brain which later caused fluid to build up, severe lung disease, multiple blood transfusions along with all other problems throughout his short life. On 5th September 2019 we had that devastating time where we needed to say 'Good Night' to Louis in person, for the last time.
Following Louis' death and as his Mother, I set up a page 'BECAUSE OF LOUIS'. My aim is to support tiny lives at New Cross Hospital. "Why there?" New Cross was Louis' home for nearly two months. Therefore, we are starting to support babies here, and their families. Nonetheless, wherever possible we do try and help other neonatal wards as much as possible. Last Christmas this support covered 5 neonatal wards, over 140 individual babies with a story book which helps families bond in ways they probably don't expect or aware of, at that time. Along with other books for the wards to keep. Something we aim to donate on a yearly basis at Christmas. Currently, we are also aiming to raise monies for a 'state of the art' incubator which will help benefit those tiny lives who use it on all levels, along with helping to support parents or families who reach out to us.
My priority is to help reduce some of that suffering Louis endured, which is also being felt by other tiny babies who have been born too early, or extremely poorly. As yet, we are not a registered charity as we haven't long been going and certain requirements for this need to be met, but this is something we are currently looking into, and hoping to achieve.
Last year we walked over 22 miles which was a brilliant day all round, and rewarding for all who took part. This year we are going BIGGER! A small group of us will be walking 600 MILES each over a period of 6 months, starting 8th March 2020. Our walk this year will come to an end on 5th September 2020 which will be Louis' 2nd anniversary of his death. On this day we will be joined by a few other members of Louis' family, and our friends (providing Covid restrictions allow us too). We will start that final day at Louis' resting place, and finish at New Cross Hospital which will be around 11 miles.
For anyone who donates to this walk and all we are striving to achieve, as Louis' Mommy, I sincerely Thank You! I hope you enjoy following our challenge this year and share this journey with us.
