Who is Rebecca Mullins?
Becca is a young lady that Deb coached in high school volleyball. Once you meet Becca, you will remember her fondly. She has the biggest smile and gives the STRONGEST & INTENSE hugs. It is hard not to love Bec from the first meeting! She will love you like she is your daughter!
Her Story
Becca Mullins is a vibrant 22 year old, young lady who has been chasing her dreams. After graduating Midview High School in 2015, Becca attended Lorain County Community College, graduating the nursing program in May of 2019. Following in her mother’s passion, she immediately accepts a job with University Hospitals as a RN, working the cardiac telemetry floor. Everything was falling into place!
Adulting along, Becca met a boy! Past high school classmates, Erich Behler and Becca have been dating for some time now. Making moves toward becoming more and more independent come big purchases. Having a great job to pay the bills, Becca buys a new car! Still thriving, the next logical step is a home! Just last month, Becca and Erich closed on their first home! Through the current difficult times for all, life’s puzzle is coming together for Becca.
Please be Just a Dream
After experiencing prior kidney stones, Becca went to the hospital with anticipation of another painful diagnosis. After following up that ER visit to a urologist and CAT scan, the pain had spread to her collar bone wear she was taken back to the ER. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no visitors were allowed to accompany her. After 2 hours & by herself, a diagnosis of b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia was given to Becca. This has left the family shaken!
What in the world is B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia?
According to Google Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common childhood cancer. It occurs when a bone marrow cell develops errors in its DNA. Becca’s physician’s have recommended care to be an initial 4-5 week course of chemotherapy, beginning immediately. Along the way, she will have 6 spinal taps, between 2 - 4 bone marrow biopsies and many more tests and scans.
Becca comes from a very loving family who she adores. These keen memories of love have manifested her own passion to be a loving, caring mother herself. But this is all in jeopardy now, as the treatment to save her life may reduce her fertility. Doctors are recommending that she consider fertility preservation while her body is still new to the treatment. Costs of preservation are high and ARE NOT covered by medical insurance.
Doctors have indicated that Becca will not be able to work for 6 months or more, depending on her body's reaction! She only began her career with University Hospitals in October 2019. She does not have enough leave to cover this lengthy treatment. Her new home and car have payments that need to be made regardless of having this cancer! The unplanned financial burden of fighting this cancer is too much for one to handle.
We can HELP!
