I have started this page to help an amazing friend and family, who are too proud to ask but so deserving of our help. Becky has been a diabetic for 27 years, she was diagnosed when she was only 7 years old. She was taught at such a young age how to adapt to her new life change, check her blood sugar and be aware of signs and symptoms to detect changes in her blood sugar. As Becky got older, of course, she was at times a little rebellious, most teenagers are. It is never easy to be different and it certainly isn't easy being a teenager, trying to fit in, control a disease and take control of blood sugar levels that for Becky were becoming so uncontrollable, but she did it. Becky is now 34 years old, and is struggling to be in control of her disease and is in need of our help. Becky has little vision; she is blind in one eye and has "low vision" in the other, caused from diabetic retinopathy.
Becky is losing her ability to detect her the changes in her glucose levels and her husband, Scott and her family cannot be with her at all times. Fluctuating glucose levels are extremely dangerous and Becky needs to be able to detect them or be alerted and this is where we add HENRY to the mix. Henry is a Diabetic Alert Dog, who will alert Becky when she needs to check her sugars. Henry, will be with Becky at all times and is trained to keep her notified and safe. In fact, when Becky met Henry for the first time he alerted her that her sugar was low!!!! Becky and her husband Scott both work, and her family has always been willing to financially help. Due to the extensive training that is required for Henry to successfully do his job, he is an enormous expense for Becky and her family. They need our help!
Becky has raised thousands of dollars for the American Diabetes Association, thru walks and fundraising with family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Team Beck-a-Boo has been donating to the ADA for years and now she is in need of our help. Having Henry will be a life changing and life saving experience for Becky. Becky and her family deserve to be able to live as independently and 'normal' as they possibly can. Let's help give Becky and her family the comfort of knowing Henry will be by her side, at all times to alert her when she needs the help! Thank you
