We are a charitable organization dedicated to saving shelter dog lives while improving the quality of life of seniors living along in our communities. We strive to increase successful adoptions by making it easier on the elderly and chronically ill to adopt with peace of mind when it comes to their health and mobility, the security of the animal in their care, and accessibility to community support. We hope that our participants will benefit in a number of ways:
- Seniors living alone will have the opportunity to take in an animal for companionship. Hopefully this will contribute positively to their mobility and mental and physical health.
- Animals in needs of homes, and possibly at risk of euthanization, can find loving homes in which to thrive.
- Seniors and their local neighbors can develop rewarding friendships through networks of care, fostering stronger cross-generational relationships in our communities.
Our first round of fundraising is targeted at outreach and promotion activities, with the focus being on helping current dog owners responsibly retain their pets, with the hope of then expanding our efforts to facilitate new adoptions among seniors. We plan to conduct some promotional events to bring together seniors, shelter dogs and volunteers interested in signing up to help, to see if we can work towards placing some of these dogs safely and responsibly in loving homes with a reliable support network in place. We'll coordinate this effort using a prototype application that we'll be developing in-house.
