Becky Evasick's Cancer Bills

Donation protected
Becky passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 21.  She was surrounded by her four children, her best four-legged friend (Bailey), and her sister Jen.  We will have a memorial jam session at the grange in Chimicum, WA, on June 8.  And we will have a small family gathering in Waupaca, WI, this summer.

Thank you to all who have given to Becky’s Go Fund Me cause.  You have made it possible for our family to visit her in the hospital in Seattle.  And we made modifications to the home where Beck spent her final days and we were able to provide dog care.  Finally, we will use the rest of the money to pay medical bills.

We will leave the fund raising page open until April 1.

For new donors, here is the back story about my sister:

Beck has had breast cancer three times in her life and this last one is a doozy. She currently has stage 4 breast cancer and it has metastasized to her lungs and other parts of her body. She had been taking her cancer medication for about a month when she had a huge setback.

On December 26, after a wonderful family gathering for Christmas, she was rushed by ambulance to Montlake Hospital in Seattle to remove a tumor that was around her spinal cord. She had been complaining about not being able to feel her feet. No wonder... That darn tumor was squishing nerves that went down her legs.

After two biopsies and a barrage of tests and scans, the Fred Hutch Oncology team discovered that she has small cell lung cancer. So now she has two metastatic cancers.

Beck's life was altered big time. She had to quit her job after she lost her mobility so she has lost her income. She was lucky to have four adult children visit her frequently and are providing tons of support.

Donations from our family and friends were used for the following:

  • Two ramps will be installed in the house where she will be staying when she leaves the hospital.
  • Buying a commode
  • Renting a hospital bed
  • Beck's mortgage, electricity and cell phone costs
  • Dog care costs until a temporary or permanent foster home is found
  • Parking for family at the hospital
  • Food and lodging for family who visit
  • Transportation for family members (One son lives in Denver; another son lives in Ellensburg, WA; Ivan lives in Silverdale, WA and her daughter lives in Seattle)
  • Medical supplies while we wait for Medicaid to kick in (our application is pending)
  • A lightweight wheelchair for exploring (I can’t manage the heavy one we have for home use)
  • Transportation of donated equipment from a friend from San Diego

We appreciate all the support that has already been given to Becky from family and friends. Many of you have been praying for her and have sent healing thoughts (Beck calls this GERONIMO energy!). Some have sent flowers. Many have asked how else you can help. After consulting with Beck's children, it was decided that the Go Fund Me fund raiser would be the best way to help. Your donation will provide a safe place for Beck to continue with rehab, will help with dog Bailey and will enable Beck's children to keep in touch with her.
