Becky Meyer with her cancer journey
Donation protected
Hi- I am Ruthie Vander linden and I am fundraising for Becky Meyer a dear friend and co-worker for 34 years.
In January of 2023, Becky noticed a black spot on the white part of her eye. After a month, she noticed that her vision became worse at the end of each day. On February 10, she woke up with more spots, and contacted her local eye doctor who immediately sent her to Wolfe Clinic in Des Moines. Within two hours of seeing local doctor, her eye pressure was extremely high. She was sent to Iowa City a few days later, and after 6 hours of testing was told she had a melanoma of the eye and her right eye needed to be removed. The eye removal was scheduled for March 20. Six weeks later she was able to get a prosthetic eye.
On her second, three month check up with her oncologist in Iowa City , the MRI showed a tumor on her liver. She had a biopsy on Oct. 30 and on November 3 found out that she has metastatic melanoma (Stage 4 liver cancer).
Becky will start her first treatment on December 18. The procedure is called IR Immuno Embolization where they will put medication through the groin to disrupt the tumor blood supply with cytotoxic drugs to try to keep the tumor from continuing to grow. They will do this on the left side one month and a month later on the other side. Becky will need to spend at least one night after every treatment in the hospital in Iowa City.
The extra funds would be such a blessing to help pay lodging for her husband Craig each time she has treatment, for food, gas, and medical expenses.
Thank you for reading and considering donating to this fund.
