Becky’s Big Heart ❤️
I adopted Becky from a shelter I worked at in 2018. She was deemed unadoptable unless an employee took her home, due to her heart murmur. I took her home with the intention of giving her the best life for the time she had, and would take her to a specialist when I could afford her care. Now that I work at a vet hospital I was able to get her echocardiogram at a discount and start her on her heart medications Vetmedin and Vasotec. We found out Becky has a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) which is a blood vessel in her heart that should have closed at birth. Her heart is doing too much work, and parts of her heart are enlarged. The specialty hospital referred us to University of Pennsylvania where they can do a minimally invasive heart procedure and correct her PDA. Becky would lead a normal lifespan if she has this procedure, but without it, it’s almost certain she will go into heart failure. Her surgery is estimated $5,000-$7,000 plus the cost of her cardiac medications and specialist appointments for follow up echocardiograms.
Now that we’ve talked about the science of it all, let me tell you about Becky. She was found as a stray in Georgia and picked up and brought to the shelter by highway patrol at 4 months old. She is the most loving little lady, every new person she meets is greeted with Becky kisses and begging for your attention. She has so much love to give for someone who was dealt such a crappy hand. She has helped our other dog Ham come out of his shell and not be so fearful. Please consider helping us help her, this surgery will correct her PDA and reverse any damage her heart has endured. She would have a normal life which is something we never considered possible for her. Thank you❣️
