Becky's Road to Recovery Needs Your Help
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that I reach out for your support. On December 11, 2024, my daughter, Becky Grigsby, suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury. The injury was sustained from a ground-level fall while visiting Texas. The fall left Becky paralyzed from the shoulders down. She spent weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at Baylor Hospital Dallas, completely dependent on a ventilator and feeding tube to keep her alive.
Becky has made enormous strides in the last few weeks. She has worked hard to recover her ability to breathe and eat on her own. Her mobility has made some improvements, but she remains a long way from regaining her independence. She currently is at the University of Michigan inpatient rehab facility, working countless hours to retrain her body. The extent to which she will ultimately recover is unknown and will be for some time.
What we do know is that Becky has an amazing attitude and is diligently working towards her goals daily. We also know her ultimate recovery is directly tied to the level of ongoing care and treatment she receives. This care is not without cost, and the numbers are adding up quickly.
In addition to the astronomical medical bills for her care, multiple surgeries, and medical transportation from Texas to Michigan, there will be many additional needs to provide her with the best opportunity to recover and have a good quality life.
These costs include but are not limited to: COBRA payments to keep healthcare insurance, home modifications for wheelchair accessibility, transportation to and from outpatient rehab, in-home assistance with daily tasks such as transferring from bed to chair, electronic lifts and other medical necessities around the house, and general adaptive technology to empower Becky with some independence while continuing her recovery.
Becky, her brother, and I are very grateful for the support and prayers we have received so far. Please keep the prayers coming. They are working! Any financial donation will go towards Becky’s care. Large or small, everything helps. We are optimistic and we will not stop believing. But we are also realistic and realize we cannot do this all on our own.
Thank you and God bless.
