Becky Swims the Bay
I am Becky Langman and I am raising money in aid of Cancer Research UK. To do this, I will be swimming across Torbay (approximately 10km) on Saturday 19th June 2021*.
Most of us will know someone affected by Cancer and I want to do this swim in memory of those we have
lost, to be thankful to those who have beat it and to give hope for those still fighting.
Please help make a difference and donate! Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
I am choosing to swim Torbay because my mum and I have always swam together. She taught me to swim without arm bands when I was 3 and volunteered as a swim teacher with Paignton Swimming Club for over 20 years so swimming has been a major part of our lives. When mum was diagnosed, unfortunately she couldn’t swim while having chemo or after surgery and radiotherapy. This photo was taken the day after her last chemotherapy treatment. She said ‘I need to get a swim in before my immunity drops!’ After chemo, mum had two surgeries and radiotherapy and as soon after as she could, she was back in the pool! Mum worked her way back doing 10 minutes- 20 minutes to now (even after so many breaks in swims due to lockdown) she is back in the fast lane with me! Mum will be taking part in some legs of this swim with me too! :)
* weather permitting- a date will be rescheduled if the conditions are not good enough.
