The team behind the independent feature film "Checked Out" and Virginia's Got Talent are excited to present an exciting opportunity to support the cast, crew, and the great state of Virginia.
What do California, New York, Georgia, and Virginia all have in common? Beautiful filming locations. Anything else? How about:
- A wealth of talented and experienced filmmakers
- The perfect foundation for the infrastructure required to support productions
- A community of passionate film lovers
But what does any of that have to do with this movie?
Written and directed by Joshua Pavlock (Richmond), Checked Out is a true labor of love. Josh has spent $35,000 of his own money getting this project off the ground. From our cinematographer, Kailee Kelter (Charlottesville), to our Hair, Makeup, and Costume Designer, Anna Molnar (Charlottesville), everyone involved is volunteering their free time to participate in this opportunity.
Shot entirely on location in Virginia, we need your help! The equipment has been tested, the actors cast, and the filming dates set. However, we need to iron out some finer details, like craft services, to ensure we make a movie with high production values that you will be dying to see.
But what do you need?
Checked Out follows a young group of friends who rent a vacation house that isn't quite what it seems. The total budget for the movie is $100,000 (inclusive of what's already been spent/paid for). For this fundraiser, we need to factor in Gofundme fees, payment processing, and production of our perks (see below). We are setting a goal of $65,000.
No stretch goals, no bells and whistles, no hassle. We're not asking for more than we need, and every dollar will go back into this movie.
Perks & Fulfillment
We spent a long time researching, discussing, and developing perks that provide you the most value, while also ensuring that as much money as possible goes back into the production.
While we will strive to meet the delivery dates, we do rely on other parties, so those are estimations and subject to change. We'll use our donor website, donor Discord server, and this page to keep you updated and informed.
You can always reach out to us on this platform if you have any questions that aren't answered in the channels above.
Risks & Challenges
Like any movie, this production is subject to mother nature, scheduling, and funding. But we're doing our best to forecast and address these challenges!
While we can't do much about the weather, we do have backup filming dates planned. The actors have been given plenty of notice for their set dates and times. And, in addition to using Gofundme, we're also planning to engage with local Richmond businesses to discuss whether they're willing and able to donate craft services, costumes, and other materials we need.
Most importantly, we're communicating! With each other, with the cast and crew, and with you. We can only find solutions when we talk through the challenges together.
What If I Can't Donate?
That's okay. You can help in other ways!
For starters, we need help getting the word out. If you share with 3 friends, and they share with 3 friends, and each of those friends keeps it going, we'll get the word out in no time. So, please feel free to share our socials with your friends and family. If you can't tell them what the movie's about, send the link to our concept short on YouTube.
Checked Out Social Media
Now that you've shared the above links with your coworkers, gym buddies, and followers, we can always use more people on the crew. So, if you or anyone you know is in the Richmond, VA area, join us! We have a place for everyone, whether it's a grip, gaffer, or musician.
And after all that, just send good vibes our way. This may be a horror movie, but it's powered by love, hard work, and your good thoughts.
Note: Raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions are NOT offered in exchange for any donations made to your GoFundMe.
