Roots of Renewal Biodesign Program for AAPI Youth
Donation protected
"Roots of Renewal" is a five-week Biodesign internship empowering AAPI youth in Sunset Park, Brooklyn through a blend of sustainability practices, art, and science education.
Over the five weeks, the students have been learning about fungi, mushroom cloning, and lab sterilization techniques at Genspace, meeting professionals in the biodesign industry (Biofabricate and Terreform) working with mycelium and built their own mycelium sculptures, going on a mushroom walk with the New York Mycological Society and learning about fungal DNA barcoding.
As part of these activities, our team will be providing laboratory materials, such as materials for DNA extraction and sequencing, and art supplies for the mycelium sculpture. We want to provide our interns with the best experience, and we hope to be able to secure the additional funds to make it happen.

To culminate our program, a graduation and showcase day will be held. This will be a gathering of the community and will celebrate the milestones our interns have achieved throughout their engagement. With the funds, we will be able to cover the costs of the event, including food provisions and other miscellaneous expenses.
