Being Russian 2022 - 2024: a multimodal mono-performance

Hello, friends!

This is Yulia, Guzel, Karen, and Maria from the School of Improvisation and Performance "The Art of Being".

We are launching this campaign to support the co-founder and co-leader of the School, Katrina Gridina, in her intention to perform at the premier event in the world of contemporary performing arts - the 78th Avignon Festival in the "OFF" program. To give you an idea of the scale of this event, think of it as the Cannes Film Festival.

We did not receive a grant for the production, but the performance is already included in the festival program, and Katrina is diligently working on bringing the concept to life. Musicians such as Manizha, Hania Rani, Yana Ostas, Estas Tonne, and Veda Ram have already believed in the project and granted the right to use their works.

In the interactive improvisational solo performance "Being Russian 2022-2024," Katrina will speak and dance about the issues of forced emigration, revealing the stories of thousands of people living in France, Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania, Argentina, Thailand, Armenia, Portugal, Poland, Germany, England, Croatia, and other parts of the world in 2022-2024.

The show will take place from July 5-7 at the "Au Chapeau Rouge" theater (Avignon, France), but the crowdfunding will continue until the end of summer. The funds raised will be invested in production, post-production, and dissemination of the results, with the aim of planning a tour with this performance to other cities and countries!

We aim for our project to become not only a platform for open dialogue about the psychological aspects of emigration, accompanied by political conflicts, violence, anxiety, and fear but also an artistic stimulus for the collective exploration of issues that require solutions in contemporary society.
