Being Salmon Being Human - East Coast Tour
Cermaq, an industrial salmon farming corporation based in Norway, is currently looking to open 4 large-scale salmon farms in Nova Scotia in St.Mary's Bay, Mahone Bay, St. Margaret's Bay and Chedabucto Bay area. This would include 15-20 farm sites, with 10 salmon cages per site, each cage enclosing 85,000 - 90,000 salmon (according to their presentation).
The inherent cruelty of these farms along with the destructive impact on local fishing industries, wild salmon populations and other marine life is an urgent call for mobilization.
We're looking to organize a tour as swiftly as we can, performing Being Salmon Being Human as a tool to support local communities, and share knowledge about salmon farming.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The stakes are high. Arts grants are typically a months long process. We are endeavouring to make this tour happen by late Spring/Summer. Cermaq is already visiting these communities with their power point presentations and lure of creating new jobs.
ARE YOU ABLE TO SUPPORT US? We're asking for financial contributions to cover flights, van rental/fuel, food and artist fees (we'd love to do it for free, yet we have monthly bills to pay!)
So far it looks like our tour will be between 10 days - 2 weeks, visiting each of the 4 communities with shows in theatres and outdoors.
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR ANY SUPPORT YOU CAN OFFER <3 Please share.
****WE ARE NOW PLANNING OUR TOUR FOR THE NEXT POSSIBLE TIME TO TRAVEL. Of course we are still accepting donations, but will re-launch our campaign Summer 2020.
