Beledweyne General Hospital Emergency Flood Relief
Donation protected
Beledweyne in South-Central Somalia is currently experiencing the worst climate crisis the country has seen in over 50
years. More than 250,000 people, many of them children have fled their homes following massive floods and heavy rain over the past month. Thousands are displaced and entire neighborhoods are submerged completely underwater.
What is happening in Somalia right now is at the front lines of the climate crisis and resources are being stretched to their limits. The floods have already devastated entire communities and cost lives, but we have the potential to avert or mitigate another disaster and that is disease outbreak. The current medical needs are massive and the greatest fear right now is the outbreak of diseases like malaria, cholera, water borne illnesses and other infections.
Floods from the Shebelle river have devastated much of the cities infrastructure, including Beledweyne General Hospital. Currently the Beledweyne General Hospital is out of action due to the intense floods that have wiped out infrastructure, medical supplies, bedding, equipment, blankets and etc. We have currently created this gofundme to provide our support for Beledweyne General Hospital as headed by Doctor Axmed Khaliif and his team of Doctors, including Doctor Abshir, Doctor Suleyman and Doctor Abdihalim. These funds will go directly to supporting the rebuilding of the infrastructure and supplies needed by Beledweyne General hospital such as medical equipment, supplies, sanitation products, transportation for patients, beds and medication. Please donate generously whatever you can, $5, $10, $20, $50, every single penny counts. This is a great opportunity to fill a need, to use our privilege and our sense of social responsibility to help as best as we can. If you cannot donate, please share this link on your social media accounts and educate yourself and others about this crisis. If we do not act decisively, the impact of these floods will be felt in Somalia long after the water levels recede.
