Clean Water for Belize
In January of 2016, the Vineyard Church in Grafton, WI, took a medical team to Belize, and for several days operated a free medical clinic in an area known as Spanish Lookout. We were there primarily to serve the Spanish speaking families, many of whom are quite poor, living in the villages surrounding Spanish Lookout. Our expectation was that we would see a wide variety of medical problems.
But what we actually discovered was that many of the children and adults were all suffering from quite similar chronic ailments: very common and easily treated gastro-intestinal conditions. The source of the problem, we soon found, is that the water being piped into the villagers’ homes comes directly, unfiltered, from the nearby river. Clean bottled water can be purchased in Belize, but most of the villagers can't afford it. So while we could provide medicine to treat the problem, as soon as they would go home and drink the water again, the sickness would return.
Bringing clean water to the villages surrounding Spanish Lookout can have an enormous impact for good in the lives of the villagers of Spanish Lookout. For about $50, we can provide a water filter which connects directly to a faucet in each home or used in conjunction with a common 5 gallon plastic bucket which can provide clean water for that family for years. The filters are simple to use, very effective, and relatively inexpensive.
Update: We raised over $5,000 which enabled us to purchase filters and bucket kits to distribute in the villages surrounding Spanish Lookout. Your donation is bringing health to some of the poorest communities in Belize. We are so thankful for your donations!
