Bella’s Brain Tumor Medical Relief Fund
Donation protected
I’m Doug Gates and raising funds to help my granddaughter Bella Snow, and her family, with medical expenses.
On June 29th, my daughter Shalene, about 7 months pregnant with twins, was rushed into surgery with a ruptured uterus. With all 3 lives in jeopardy, the surgeons removed the twins and completed surgery on June 29th. The twins Bella and Jade were born at 2.5 and 2.75 lbs, would spend 83 days in the hospital!
On March 26th, Bella was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor. Needless to say this has been a heavy mental and financial diagnoses.
Both Shalene (Bella’s mother) and Josh (Bella’s father) are self employed. Shalene due to her surgery, was just getting back to work, but has not left Bella since being admitted to Children’s Hospital, and will be there for the next two weeks, as Belle recovers.
Josh, has been unable to work due to Covid shut downs and his own illness. For months And probably years, Josh had been suffering from his own undiagnosed illness. On March 25th, the day before Bella’s cancer diagnosis, Josh was diagnosed with the rare condition of having Both Hashimoto’s AND Graves’ disease. As there is no medics for these combined conditions, he is scheduled to have his thyroid removed this month.
Bella made it through her 10+ hour brain surgery, but now faces a YEAR of chemotherapy. And while the insurance covers much of the medical, the financial burden of trips to Children’s for chemotherapy will add up with gas, food and possible lodging. The family is already taking a big financial hit with neither parent able to return to work and bills (mortgage, utilities, gas, food etc).
Josh and Shalene are very reluctant in asking for help, just as I was with my son Mason, through his Leukemia battle, but sometimes you have to swallow you pride and let people know you could use a little help.
The family certainly does NOT expect any donations, but many people have reached how about how they can help, and this is one avenue. Rest assured, my family never wants to profit from an illness, so if, somehow this fund raises more than they need, the surplus will be donated to to a good brain cancer cause.
