On Friday, October 10th, we became the first same-sex couple to be legally married in the state of North Carolina! This was our fifth time at the Register of Deeds office asking to marry. About a year ago, we were arrested in the Register of Deeds office after refusing to leave until we were served at the counter.
The best wedding gift we could possibly imagine would be to continue the work of our heart, BeLoved, a house of hospitality and community committed to justice and equality.
We are working hard to expand our queer/trans shelter! The need is great because discrimination is still rampant. From the gay youth kicked out of their home by their parents to the gay couple we welcomed who were living in their truck in the winter after they were turned away from other shelters to the trans woman who collapsed on the bus and discharged to BeLoved from our hospital. We get calls every day! We are working for a place with room enough so none of our family are left in the cold.
We urgently need your help in purchasing a larger space to welcome people home!
