Help build the Boys' Dorms!

Hello and welcome to the Bright English Medium pre-and primary School (BEMS) in the rural Ngorongoro District of Tanzania.

We are the first group of volunteers in 2023. Together we have started this GoFundMe which will be in place for as long as possible, so all incoming volunteers can share the link with their friends and family too.

(Note: GoFundMe does not operate in Tanzania, thus this fund is based in the USA. Rest assured that 100% of the money is sent directly to the school).

Since the founding of the school in 2009, volunteers have come from all around the world to help teach classes, share information and help fund larger projects, all through word-of-mouth. A few years ago, a group from Germany came and helped build a new kitchen. After that, volunteers raised money to build the girls' dormitory and volunteer quarters.

Over the years BEMS has built a caring community, with supportive teachers committed to excellence in education, both to the students and their parents through community workshops. The students here also score the highest in the region on the national exams. About two-third of the 300 students come from rural Maasai villages. To far to travel home each night, they attend BEMS' boarding school and visit their family only on holidays.

At this time, all the boarding school boys still sleep in a temporary place, which is one of the classrooms. It is quite small, many of the younger boys share beds and there is no washroom.

BEMS' main priority for 2023 is to raise funds and build the boys' dormitory. And then use the classroom to teach again.

The total cost of building the new dorms is $50,000. Construction will take place in stages, starting with the foundation and continue as the funds are raised, both by volunteers and hopefully through a few larger sponsor organizations (if you know of any, please reach out!).

We hope you will consider a donation; even a little money will help a lot. It will be donated directly to the school with an immediate impact in the local community, by buying bricks, cement, steel, and pay local carpenters to start building the foundation.
